It's a town in the Valles Calchaquíes, located in the south west of Salta Province, Argentina.

The area is famous for its vineyards, excellent wines and wine cellars. Torrontés is grown in this region. It's the largest city in the tourist circuit of the Valles Calchaquíes. The attractions of this town are both cultural and natural: the "Museo de la Vid y el Vino" (Museum of Vine and Wine), the Archaeological Museum, the "Paseo de los Artesanos" (Promenade of the Artisans) in front of the main square, and its natural wonders such as the Quebrada de las Conchas also known as the Quebrada de Cafayate
